Sharing the good news: the Sal Iacono Family Bursary Endowment Fund is expanding!

In 2007, the Sal Iacono Family Bursary launched in support of post-secondary education at Algonquin College in Ottawa. Since then, more than 100 students have jump-started their future career paths in various fields, including veterinary services, occupational health, nursing and business.

The Sal Iacono Family Bursary is available to students applying to Algonquin College directly, but also through Easter Seals Ontario and The Children’s Aid Foundation Ottawa.

“I am so grateful and so thankful to have received financial support such as your generously donated bursary to be able to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a vet tech. I cannot explain the amount of stress this has relieved for me and I am so happy to be able to continue my education with your support!” – past Sal Iacono Family Bursary recipient

In the past, bursary recipients were limited to a select number of spots, but for 2024, five additional candidates will be selected to pursue their post-secondary studies at Algonquin College in the program of their choice, based on demonstrated financial need and other criteria. An independent committee will review and assess all submissions against established criteria to select bursary recipients.

There is no doubt the late Sal Iacono would be immensely pleased with the evolution of this bursary program. Education was of the utmost importance to Sal, and he fundamentally believed that a brighter future is possible with a great educational foundation. By expanding the reach of the Sal Iacono Family Bursary, more students applying to Algonquin College in Ottawa will be able to pursue their studies without compromising their financial well-being.

“It was really a big surprise for me receiving this bursary award. I was worried about rent and wasn’t sure I’d be able to make the school year possible. It’s a big relief because as a mature student, and head of the family, it’s difficult to deal with money, rent, gas, food, kids and more.” - past Sal Iacono Family Bursary recipient
